Well folks, I almost made it to the first day of Spring without getting sick (actually through both Fall and Winter). Now here I am on the last day of winter, facing a super busy work week and feeling so under the weather. I think I have my little brother to thank for this not so great cold or whatever it is. I spent most of the weekend with him and he was feeling a little under the weather. This is the story of our life though because when we were younger, if I got sick he’d get sick and vice versa. I’m actually surprised I managed to get this blog post live but I had most of it done yesterday. What is even more surprising is that I somehow got this done while being on a serious Gossip Girl-binge at night the last week and haven’t been able to work on anything blog related after work. This is also my 4th time watching all the Gossip Girl seasons….what can I say, I love it!
Now onto the weekend!
My weekend sort of felt like it started on Thursday even though I had to work on Friday. Some of my girlfriends and I grabbed wine at my favorite bar that just happens to be down the street from me. It’s a super casual yet charming setting and offers so many different bottles of wine to choose from along with some great options on tap. If you’re in the Oakland area, you should definitely check out Bay Grape. Not to mention I love their cheese, meat, and snack cracker options… so good! If you’re not a wine drinker, no worries, they have beer too!
My brother was home for spring break last week but I wasn’t able to make it home during the week to see him, so he came down to Oakland on Friday night for the weekend. We took him out for a little late-night-celebration of his 21st birthday (like 6 -months late, haha) we had originally planned to go to Room 389 (conveniently right across the street from the wine bar). However, we actually ended up going to The Star on Grand because I was HANGRY! I’m 9 years older than my brother so it’s kind of crazy taking him out to drink now!
St. Patrick’s Day! Ryan had to leave super early Saturday morning for a baseball tournament (he coaches a local 13 year old team) so he was gone all weekend. My brother was here and we had a slow start to the morning (read: we may have had too much wine and beer the night before). My sister and her boyfriend came to get us and we did a little bar hopping in San Francisco until our family St. Patricks Day dinner. I don’t know what the name of the first bar we went to was but they had a really great breakfast taco along with a cheap $3 mimosa, can’t beat that. Then we took a little trip up to Twin Peaks which I did not have the right shoes on for (#typical) but that view was worth it.
Then we headed to Anchor Brewing only for me to realize that there is only beer at a brewery (duh, Amber) so it was sparkling water for me. Darn that gluten always being a buzz kill! After that, we headed over to my mom’s cousins’ house for dinner. He makes the best corned beef around. He preps and brines it himself the entire week before St. Patricks Day and it’s seriously so good! He also has a killer rooftop where you can almost see the entire skyline of San Francisco, I mean look at this picture!
You guys, I seriously did nothing on Sunday. NOTHING!! I binged watched more Gossip Girl and am now almost done with season 2. That’s kind of embarrassing since I only started rewatching last Sunday and have almost finished 2 seasons. Sometimes a lazy Sunday can be just the best thing ever, though! I felt totally fine yesterday so I was really surprised when I woke up feeling so crappy this morning.
Did you guys do anything fun over the weekend? I love weekends like this that are spent with family and loved ones mixed in with a little bit of laziness!
