Let’s talk office design inspiration, shall we?! I can’t even begin to tell you all how long it took me to decide what to do with our
office space, **ahem** corner in our living room. The struggle for space is real when you live in an urban city where rents are through the roof! Our lovely little apartment is only 600sqft. Now, I know some of you are thinking holy guacamole that is small! It sounds small, but our layout and closet space happens to be super functional so it actually doesn’t feel as small as it sounds. We also have a killer balcony space with a view of Lake Merritt that makes only having 600sqft a little easier.
When we moved into this apartment we knew we needed to carve out a corner somewhere for a desk space. I have the ability to work from home and with my husband being in law school not having a desk was not an option. Because of our layout it was actually pretty easy to figure out where to put the desk. Let’s be real here, when you’re working with 600sqft you don’t really have a vast amount of options on where to put a desk. The challenge came when I tried to figure out how to incorporate the design of the desk area with the rest of our living room since that’s where the space is located. For months and months, just a white desk sat in the corner as I became less and less inspired to design the space.
When I decided to finally start the design process I stumbled upon this site called Havenly. If you haven’t heard of them and need design help then I would definitely check them out. I decided to try the Havenly Mini package since my space was small and I primarily needed help with how to incorporate an office space within my living room. The entire process was great and left me with two design boards that I could shop through their site. Even though both the design boards were great, they just didn’t feel completely right for me and the space. This is such a typical Amber move, I decide to get some help and then eventually end up doing it myself. Good grief I tell ya, this is something I do way too much!
I think the reason that Havenly may not have worked for me is because I like to think I have a good eye for design on my own. Oh, and maybe the fact that I’m terribly picky and like to control things myself. I still totally recommend trying it out if you need design help! These are the two boards below that I got back from the Havenly designer.
After deciding that I wasn’t completely in love with either of the design boards I ended up designing the space myself. I kept the white campaign desk and grey chair that I already owned. I then picked a few pieces that I did like from the boards and incorporated my own touches. You can see my design board that I created for the space below. For now, I will leave you with the inspiration board I created and worked off of to create our cute and functional space.

I can’t wait to show you all the actual office reveal!
White, bright, with dark accents and a hint of bohemian flare. That’s a style, right?! Well if it’s not, I’m making it one now. When it comes to the bedroom, I like to remove most color and keep with neutrals. It feels so much more calming to me and it’s hard to beat crisp white bed linens. These are a few pictures I’ve been keeping handy while decorating our new bedroom. I love how all of these pictures have perfected the use of neutrals.
My inspiration board for our room that I have been working off of while designing it…I can’t wait to share the final reveal with you all once the room is finally complete!
My office nook tour makes me so happy because I oh so LOVED my little space. It housed all of my pretty pink girly things, party supplies, piñatas, and fun little objects that I’ve picked up here and there. The rest of the room held a TV and my husband’s office space that was filled with all his law school things. With our move to Oakland it meant that we had to downsize and a shared office became a thing of the past. While I love our new apartment and neighborhood, I do miss my own desk space. Our new “office” consists of a shared desk in the corner of our living room that I will share with you all once it’s complete. I plan to decorate that little “office” to my hearts desire but have a feeling that come the fall it will be taken over by law school supplies (i.e. a ridiculous amount of books).
I love layering different fabrics and textures to make a space feel cozy and like my own. I love this colorful turkish rug and white faux fur rug combination.
These geometric shaped piñatas were one of my favorite details and served as a faux chandelier above my desk. I’d been wanting to find something just like these to hang above my desk but found these fun shaped piñatas to be rather pricey. I found these ones at the cutest little party store in Carpentaria for like 75% off.
My Packed Party Disco Drink always added a touch of fun to a rather boring work day when I worked from home.
This Ikea Raskog Utility Cart is one of my favorite things…it’s functional, cute, and great for creative storage solutions.
My desk space was really a collection of things that I love and threw together to make a fun and happy work space for myself!
Can’t wait to share our new office space in the new apartment with you all!
If you read my post about my emerald loveseat, then you already know that I’m moving in the next few weeks. I’m super excited to eliminate my currently very long commute, and equally as excited to redecorate. So today I’m sharing a little bit of my apartment design inspiration for what I’m thinking I want the living room to look like. On a recent trip to Santa Barbara, we stumbled upon a Turkish store that have some seriously amazing finds, like the rug in the bottom left corner. You’d imagine my surprise when Ryan said he really liked it. Pinks, corals, and seafoam…I didn’t need anymore convincing that this rug had to come home with us.
I took a little bit of a risky chance and ordered a sofa online….GASP! I know, I was a little nervous about it but the company has amazing reviews and the dimensions of this arm roll sofa make it perfect for cuddling. Since the new apartment is on the smaller side there is some major downsizing that is currently happening. My goal is that every piece of furniture has some practicality to it with a little bit of storage. This coffee table is perfect for a small space with the amount of storage that it offers. While I love that little gold end table I might opt for something like the black one that has drawers.
I can’t wait to pull the entire look together and share it with you all once I’m finished!
If you read my blog post on coffee table books then you may have noticed that I also fancy display trays. I have three-ish around the house stocked with some of my favorite things. One is on the coffee table that holds two of my favorite books, Ryan’s whiskey book, the remote controls, and a few other nick knacks that just serve the purpose of looking cute. Another is on the entry table that holds a cute little french bulldog statue and a bowl for all our junk. The last display tray is a cute little round one that sits on the bar cart holding three vintage crystal decanters.
Today I’ve rounded up some seriously impressive display trays for you to feast your eyes on. Whether you’re looking for something simple or something with a little bit more character, you’re sure to find one that works for you and your decor style. I may just even have to add that teal and acrylic handled one to my own collection.
I have a similar round tray like this that I use on my bar cart to hold my crystal decanters.
You’ve probably seen these display trays grace my Instagram a time or two. A friend of mine gave these to me and I always seem to end up using them as an Instagram prop.
I love the metallic trim on this one!
I have a similar reclaimed would tray that you’ve probably also seen on my Instagram because it’s one of my favorites. I love adding a little bit of wood to my decor elements and a tray like this is the perfect way of doing so.
The color and the acrylic details on this one has me swooning!!
I love the uniqueness in the shape of this tray along with the brassy gold color.
This tray is definitely showing off a little bit. I love the shape, color, and that it’s also glass all the way around.
I love how this one is super sleek and modern looking.
I’m loving the stud details on these white trays.
This is a perfect tray for the bathroom.
I’d love to hear what you use your trays for!
