Happy Monday, Loves! Who else is LOVING this time change?! Sunday was the most glorious day with all the extra daylight and perfect 75 degree weather. Seriously, the first week of “spring forward” is one of my favorite weeks of the year. It always feels like there are so many fresh possibilities with the extra daylight and warm weather. Today I’m talking about WALLPAPER!!
Wallpaper is and has been making quite the comeback in the design world this last year or two and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. We aren’t just talking about your Grandma’s wallpaper here either! We’re talking bold and modern patterns that can transform a room without it being too costly. It does so much more than just paint does, it adds texture and personality to a space.
During my quest to transform our dining room I thought about using wallpaper. The only problem I had was that it seemed too permanent. What if I hated it? What if I didn’t? What would this mean for my security deposit? Most people who are renting aren’t thinking about wallpapering anything. Of course, I am that anomaly and want to customize everything in a rental.
I tried to get over my wallpaper idea but just couldn’t let it go. I even convinced myself that I’d just hire someone to remove it and fix the wall when we moved out. Ryan quickly talked me out of that idea, haha. But behold, the March Martha Stewart Living Magazine that featured removable wallpaper. Say what now?!? Removable?! As in I could put it up and take it down if I hated it?? And I might get my security deposit back? Could this really be TRUE?! It obviously seemed to good to be true to me.
Why had I not thought about researching removable wallpaper in the first place? But of course, good ol’ Martha came through with a solution I’d been looking for without even realizing I’d been looking for it. Cue Chasing Paper, they have some seriously cute wallpapers that are all completely removable. They even had my dalmatian print wallpaper that I’ve been swooning over for quite some time.
I ordered a few samples to decide between the black and gray speck wallpaper. I’ve always loved black speck wallpaper but kind of loved the gray when I saw it. I also wanted to test how “removable” this product was actually going to be. I left the samples up for two weeks and am happy to report they peeled off my wall with ease and no damage. Is this a dream or what? The perfect solution to a wallpaper obsessed renter.
So which did I pick? I went with the one that has always made me go gaga, the black speck! Thanks to all my wonderful Instagram and SnapChat followers for helping me decide between the gray and the black. You all have amazing taste! Both colors actually got an equal number of votes!
I installed my removable wallpaper last week and completed it in about 2ish hours by myself. My wall is about 6′ wide x 8′ tall so 2 hours doesn’t seem that long at all. The best part about installing the paper is that if you mess up, you can redo it because it’s removable. My biggest piece of adivce if you are going to do this….pick a FORGIVING pattern! I’m terrible about making things straight (you should see my scrapbooks from back in the day, nothing was ever straight). So if you pick something like the speck paper, no one is going to know that it’s a little off. But a stripe, the world won’t stop staring if it’s crooked. Trust me!
I promise a full reveal is coming soon. I just need need to decide on wall decor!
