Happy President’s Day! Is anyone else sitting on the sofa and doing a little online shopping?! I had big plans for today but this rainstorm has me cozied up on the sofa with my laptop and credit card instead. Thank goodness for all the holiday sales that are going on today, my pocket book sure is thankful! Now, let’s talk Lilly Pulitzer + Starbucks + Swell, shall we?!
I’m sure you all know about the fabulous collaboration between these three brands to create one FABULOUS water bottle. If you have no idea what I’m talking about…then ask yourself, “Have I been living under a rock?” Just kidding!! I’m totally joking about the rock part. If you have no idea what Lilly Pulitzer + Starbucks bottles I’m over here babbling about, don’t worry, you’ll know by the end of the post.
It all started last Friday night when I was browsing Instagram and stumbled upon a picture that looked like a S’well Bottle but with a Lilly Pulitzer print. Could my eyes be playing a trick on me?! Or was it really true?! Naturally, I began searching the Internet for more information about these bottles. To my dismay, I couldn’t find any information about them. I assumed my eyes must have been playing a trick on me. I let it go until Sunday when I decided to do a little more research and found out those bottles were also a collaboration with Starbucks. My eyes weren’t playing tricks after all! That’s all I needed to know to head straight down to my local Starbucks to see if they had them in stock. Off I went in my brightly colored workout leggings and sneakers on this
ridiculous mission to find this bottle. The baristas at Starbucks had no idea what I was talking about. They did tell me that their product display was set to change on the 15th. Did this mean Lilly was coming??? Unfortunately, they didn’t know what the new shipment was going to contain and told me to check back later that week.
Check back later that week……ha! Cleary they didn’t know how persistent I can be. I thought to myself, “No way can I wait until the 15th.” Mainly because once other Lilly lovers knew about these bottles they’d be on the hunt as well and I’d miss my chance. I tried to let it go but 100% failed at doing so. Because you see, once I get fixated on something, I can’t let it go. Would that be considered OCD? I think it might, because I felt completely obsessed with these bottles at this point.
Sooooo… on Monday when the launch was officially announced I was a little bummed to find out that the bottles were only going to be released in 4,000 locations. That’s it?! Great, my chances of finding one just went way down. I literally looked up how many Starbucks locations were in the U.S. to figure out what the probability was that they would make it into an Oakland Starbucks. Thank you college statistics courses for helping me track down water bottles. See kids, you really can apply those courses to real life. Yes, I totally realize that I sound crazy at this point for some darn water bottles. But again, I was hooked and couldn’t stop until I found one.
Since Lilly isn’t quite the craze here in California as it is in other parts of the country, I assumed that the bottles probably weren’t going to be at very many locations. I was hopeful that Oakland would make the list since it is a large metropolitan area. I was also hopeful that they wouldn’t sell out considering it’s not exactly the most preppy town in America.
Alas, Monday morning at 10am when my new friend, Amy Beth texted me asking if I “was at “our” Starbucks yesterday searching for these bottles?” I say “our” Starbucks because we live in the same neighborhood. We connected thanks to Instagram after following one another for awhile. What a small world, right?!
It’s such a delight to have found a friend that shares so many of the same interests as me, including blogging, and that is sweet as a peach in my neighborhood! Oh and someone that it willing to share in your craziness of hunting down something so silly as a water bottle. This is the start to a wonderful friendship! Our neighborhood is filled with hipster coffee shops and restaurants where the people that frequent them don’t have quite the same style as I do, to say the least. It’s nice to not be the only person walking in decked out in pink, one too many accessories (but can you really have too many), and bright pink lip gloss. It’s truly is like finding a rare gem!
Just to be clear, I totally love those hipster restaurants and coffee shops, and so many other things in Oakland! It’s just my personal style that doesn’t always fit it that well. If you’ve watched my Snapchat then you’ve totally seen me go into the coffee shop down the street in my bright clothes to find that everyone in there is literally wearing all black. Talk about a fish out of the water. Their vanilla latte is superb though, so I still go on the regular.
Back to the story…We made a pact that if we found the bottles we would pick one up for the other. Two people on the search is better than one. I was getting ready to enlist poor Ryan on this search, but thankfully, he was spared thanks to Amy Beth. She is happens to be just as persistent as I am so we were confident that we’d be able to snag a bottle for the both of us. You can read how the rest of this story panned our here because Amy Beth is “da real MVP” in this story.
Whew…that was a lot about a water bottle. I think if you’re a Lilly fan then you totally understand the craziness. If you’re not a Lilly fan then now you have an idea on just how crazy people go over Lilly.
Amy Beth and I are collaborating on something fun that involves our girl, Lilly. Check back on the blog and Instagram later this week for more details!
Hope you all are staying dry and enjoying the long weekend!
